10,000,000 particles simulation - 1000 frames. Bake file size 251Gb (compressed), bake time ~ 3h. 1000 frames render time (around 8,000,000 - 9,500,000 visible faces/frame on average) ~ 20h. Rendering frames where more zoomed out took at least 10 times longer than average, because in those situations in a very tiny area there can be around 5million particles for a single thread to render (= even though I used 32 x 32 tile size, the main particle clump still falls under just one or two "rendering tiles"). This was mostly just a test how much my cpu can take.. I didn't try higher than 10 million though. There's a glowing sphere object with force field and a rectangle of 10 million particles in the beginning. The sphere does some random movements first and then stays still. The particles are actually very short lines with a wire frame material, some color ramps and high transparency. Shadowed light or volumetric material was also looking pretty good but I decided it would have taken a bit too long to render for something like this :) The camera movements are pretty random... CPU: i7 3820 @ 4,3GHz and 16GB ram
